LOGLINE
A tax attorney who has never won anything discovers his country club's forgotten wrestling program—and must defeat his childhood bully in the ring to finally earn the blazer he's always wanted.
Equal parts Rocky Horror Picture Show and Caddyshack, with body slams.
SYNOPSIS
Steve Bartlett is a tax attorney who has failed at every country club sport imaginable—golf, tennis, croquet, even shuffleboard. All he wants is a championship blazer and the sense of belonging that comes with it.
When his best friend Les discovers a forgotten trophy case for the long-dormant Country Club Wrestling Association of America, Steve finally sees his chance. But standing in his way is Max—nine-time CCWAA champion, childhood bully, and the mastermind behind a money laundering scheme hidden within the league's absurd bureaucracy.
With the help of Marine veteran Barb and the eternally optimistic Les, Steve must find the courage to step into the ring, expose the corruption, and prove that sometimes the underdog gets his blazer.
A feel-good comedy about masculinity, friendship, and the absurd lengths we go to belong.

THEMES
PRINCIPAL CHARACTERS
STEVE BARTLETT — "The Steve"
Baritone • Age Range: 25-45
A tax attorney whose life is defined by what he doesn't have: the coveted country club blazer that represents belonging, respect, and achievement. Steve is kind, earnest, and perpetually trying too hard. He has failed spectacularly at every club sport. Beneath the self-deprecating exterior lies genuine courage and an unshakeable moral compass. The role requires an actor who can anchor the show's emotional journey while maintaining comedic lightness.
LES DORNOCH — "The Destroyer / Master of Disaster"
Tenor • Age Range: 25-45
Steve's best friend since childhood and eternal optimist. Les is enthusiastic to the point of delusion, seeing potential greatness in every situation. He's the driving force behind the wrestling team idea, convinced it will solve all of Steve's problems. Les has a natural charisma that makes his absurd confidence infectious. He is the heart of the show's friendship theme.
MAX McCLANAHAN — "The Max"
Baritone/Bass • Age Range: 25-45
The show's antagonist and Steve's childhood bully who never stopped being one. Max is the 9-time CCWAA champion, smooth, charming, and running a massive money laundering operation through the wrestling organization. He represents everything toxic about privilege—using his position to exploit others while maintaining a veneer of respectability. He's genuinely menacing, not cartoon villainy.
DR. BARBARA BULLSWORTH — "Doc Stoppage"
Mezzo/Alto • Age Range: 25-45
A military veteran (Desert Storm) and proctologist who has never fit comfortably in either world. At the country club, she's seen as too rough; in military circles, she's seen as too privileged. Barb is physically powerful, emotionally guarded, and desperately seeking a place where all parts of her can coexist. She finds that belonging in the wrestling ring. A romantic subplot develops with Steve.
RICKI STAR — CCWAA Executive Director
Tenor/Character • Age Range: 55-70
The CCWAA Executive Director and a faded Vegas showman. Ricki is flamboyant, enthusiastic, and genuinely loves country club wrestling—he's the only person who takes it completely seriously as a sport. His name is on all the organization's paperwork, making him the unwitting patsy for Max's money laundering scheme. He's financially incompetent but refuses to sign documents he doesn't understand. This is a star character part for a comedy veteran—think Nathan Lane energy.
MADONNA DONNA DON PABLITO PICASSO
Baritone • Age Range: 25-45
Max's flamboyant henchman with dangerous energy beneath a theatrical exterior. Don Pablo is Max's enforcer, muscle, and co-conspirator in the money laundering scheme. He speaks with a Spanish accent, dresses impeccably, and serves as Max's "second" during wrestling matches. He's the Ladies Regional Champion (three-time) despite presenting as male—the CCWAA has unusual rules. This role is a scene-stealer: genuine danger underneath the camp.

PRODUCTION VISION
Country Club Wrestling: The Musical is a high-energy musical comedy that playfully subverts expectations about masculinity, privilege, and power. By colliding the elite world of country clubs with the theatrical spectacle of amateur wrestling, we create a Trojan horse of entertainment that challenges audiences to reconsider their assumptions about strength, success, and what it means to be a champion.
Our vision celebrates the performative, flamboyant nature of wrestling while gently dismantling toxic masculinity. Through athletic choreography, glittering costumes, and heartfelt storytelling, we're crafting a show that makes space for vulnerability, celebrates chosen family, and affirms that true strength comes from lifting others up.
In our current moment of social division, this production offers a bridge—using familiar American iconography to slip past cultural defenses and open hearts to new perspectives. We believe theatre has the power to unite rather than divide, and humor is our secret weapon.
